The Master’s in Virtual Architecture gives professionals of the architectural field (architects, designers, engineers, surveyors and related professionals) all the tools to visualize projects in 3D graphics. The classes teach how to elaborate the most appropriate method for each type of project, how to use CAD 2D and 3D programs, and how to complete a project with post-production and animation techniques. The final product aims to be as sophisticated as possible and, depending on the intention, achieves total photorealism.

The Master’s has been running since 1999, and is constantly updated according to the best and most recents developments in techniques and softwares.

Space and materials unfold and embody the architectural idea. 
Light becomes the essential synthesis, materials are
adapted and exchanged, the virtual becomes a powerful tool
for pure experimentation.
The designer imagines and verifies, analyzes and explores, 
identifies with and measures the validity of his or her idea,
visualising its realization.
The outcome is shaped by the most advanced techniques
of static and dynamic representation; the communication of the project is achieved by using
the most up-to-date computer graphics technologies.


The Master’s is aimed at designers, graduates and soon-to-be graduates in architecture or civil engineering, and junior architects or designers who wish to broaden their professional tools and acquire specific skills in the current representation techniques.

The technical skills required for participation in the course are:

  • design experience;
  • familiarity with IT tools;
  • knowledge of 2D CAD.

The prospective student has a strong interest in developing his or her professional skills by fully mastering the best and most advanced representation and communication techniques. The Master’s board evaluates each student’s admission on the basis of his or her resume and an interview.


The course aims to teach students how to:

  • manage 3D architectural projects and their fruition (print, video, and any audiovisual media) in the final elaboration stage, both static and dynamic;
  • verify the project’s design through 2D and 3D CAD programs;
  • integrate with other designs and engineering functions.




The skills acquired during the Master’s in Virtual Architecture can be applied in a variety of fields, wherever the ability to create photorealistic simulations, virtually indistinguishable from a photograph, can be beneficial. These simulations can be used in contexts such as: the testing stage of a design; elaborations for competitions; presentations of proposals to a client; integration between different design areas, such as areas, volumes, engineering, structural and dynamic calculations. Starting from the analysis of traditional design, the course aims to train students to use high-level techniques for CAD and 3D graphic representation and advanced animation. Students will also learn how to apply these skills to test a design for its environmental impact, how to simulate complex structures and restorations, how to create archaeological reconstructions, and how to represent furnishing up to the choice of materials, lighting and natural environment (including plant species and how they change over time, recording their dynamic behaviour in response to the weather). All these simulations will follow a strictly programmed operational flow.



The Master’s is divided into introduction and advanced modules. The classes deal with the design of projects using 2D and 3D CAD and BIM software; the porting of data within the 3D software used during rendering; transcoding formats; definition of 2D texture; advanced rendering in V-Ray and Fryrender; the study and representation of the natural environment, fluid dynamics, and lighting; the editing of tables and video animations; HDR technique and 2D/3D photomontages to study environmental impact. There are also classes on management and contracts, useful to carry out professional activities in the field.
