Rome is one of the most photographed cities of the world, and yet it always offers new sides to discover: its centuries-old beauty, its inhabitants, life, and unique atmosphere.

Through a fascinating photo journey, the objective of the workshop is the realization of a photobook, developed by participants under the supervision of our tutors.

Overview

First session: from July 10th to July 23rd, 2018

Second session: from August 21st  to September 3rd, 2018

Duration: two weeks per session, 80 hours of lessons over 9 days, from 10am to 7pm (with 1-hour break).

Credits (recommended): 8 ECTS

Scholarship

QDU offers one scholarship for every 10 participants enrolled in this course. The scholarship’s amount is half the participation fee. The scholarship will be assigned to the author of the best final work.

WHO IS IT FOR

The course is aimed at students who have an interest in photography and creativity.

In order to attend the course, participants must have the required equipment: an ordinary digital camera with accessories.

COURSE DURATION
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

The student will realize a personal photobook in digital format.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will receive a certificate of attendance. If the student wishes to convert the class hours attended in Italy into academic credits, he or she will have to arrange a suitable conversion with his or her faculty in the home country, before attending the course in Rome. QDU can supply the specifications of the module in order to assist in this conversion. As reference, the summer program is equivalent to 4 ECTS per week.

CLASSES

The course will focus on the following modules:

  • guided visits and collective analysis;
  • collective brainstorm and critical analysis of the subjects and iconographic materials;
  • tips and tricks to produce a book: graphic layouts, grids, texts and images editing;
  • development of the concept and definition of the design guidelines, intermediate rough presentation, creation of the maquette’s layout;
  • digital printing techniques

The project is developed through three suggested themes:

  • Ancient Rome
  • Renaissance Rome
  • Twentieth-century Rome
